UND Announces First Unmanned Aircraft Grads


Among the nearly 1,500 receiving degrees from the University of North Dakota during spring commencement on Saturday will be the first graduates in the nation with degrees in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) operations.

“It’s truly the first and only kind of its major program in the country at this point,” said Kent Lovelace, chair of the aviation department at the UND John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences. “These are the first graduates from anywhere in the country with a degree in UAS operations.”

Conrad, Hoeven Announce Lt. Gen. James As UAS Summit Keynote Speaker


James Oversees the Air Force's Intelligence and Surveillance Capabilities

Washington - Senators Kent Conrad and John Hoeven announced today that Air Force Lieutenant General Larry D. James will deliver the keynote address at the 2011 Red River Valley Research Corridor Unmanned Aircraft Systems Action Summit. Senators Conrad and Hoeven are cosponsors of the summit, which will be held June 2-3 at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks.

NETL accepting community proposals to deploy and implement plug-in electric drive vehicles


The National Energy Technology Laboratory invites proposals that address Planning for Plug-in Electric Vehicles and Charging Infrastructure to prepare communities for successful deployment and implementation of plug-in electric drive vehicles. Approximately $5.0 million will be made available to support up to 15 awards. Eligibility is unrestricted domestically. Proposals are due Jun 13. United States Army Medical Research accepting proposals for $1.5 million Clinical Trial Award

United States Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA) invites proposals for the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) Clinical Trial Award to support research on the treatment and/or management of TSC. Approximately $1.5 million will be made available to support one award. Eligibility is unrestricted. Proposals are due Aug 4.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is accepting proposals for Tribal Colleges and Universities Program to promote high quality science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, research and outreach. Fives types of awards will receive funding under this program:

Planning Grants provide support to undertake self-analysis of the TCUP-eligible institution's undergraduate STEM programs to identify components that need improvement or enhancement in order to ensure a high-quality undergraduate STEM education.

LM Wind Power Establishes New R&D Facility in Partnership With UND


LM Wind Power, the world's leading component producer in the wind turbine sector, is opening a new Global Research and Development office at the University of North Dakota's Research Enterprise and Commercialization (REAC) park. The new facility will enhance LM's presence in the Red River Valley, expanding operations beyond their existing blade production plant in Grand Forks.
