Unmanned Aircraft Systems Engineering

Unmanned Aircraft Systems Engineering is a faculty and student engineering consortium that develops payloads and new applications for the UAS industry at the University of North Dakota.

The concept for the UASE Team first came about back in 2000 with the AEROCam and Agcam projects in conjunction with the aviation department.

Over the next few years projects like CubeSat and Motes Wireless Sensor Network helped refine the idea of the team and continued the co-operation between the EE and ME students. Then in 2005 the team started moving more from a concept and idea to a reality with the EO/IR Digital Imaging and SUNDOG project, these projects were a move from engineering in general to UAV payload development.

2007 marked the formal inception of the UASE Team; the first payload developed was the PersionAg Payload.
Since that initial payload in 2007 the team has been busy with many projects designed for both the BTE Super Hauler and other UAVs.

There are a number of projects currently being worked on by graduate and undergraduate students. For the graduate students working on the Team, they have had the opportunity to make the project they are working on the basis for there thesis, as well as graduating seniors their senior design project. The current projects very in nature from payloads, ways to track and control the UAV, and projects for other UAVs.

The current Payload projects are; Elvis(LaserComm), ADS-B Sense and Avoid , and Vibration Stabilization Mount .

Projects dealing with tracking and controlling are; ESAA, Two-Axis Gimbal System, LCAS, SDR, and STK.

Projects for other UAVs; Air Drop Payload and Predator Pod.
